Q.Soil Health & Amendments

What does low phosphorus mean for my crops?

A.

Low phosphorus (P) limits root development, flowering, and fruit set. Symptoms include purple-tinged leaves on young plants, stunted growth, and reduced yield. Apply triple superphosphate, MAP, or compost at soil-test-recommended rates. Phosphorus moves slowly in soil, so band applications near the seed at planting are more effective than broadcasts.

Crop calendar pages cover phosphorus needs by crop.
