Wipers (the cross of striped bass and white bass) are sterile hybrids that grow faster than either parent and tolerate warmer, more eutrophic water. Many states prefer wipers to pure stripers for reservoir stocking because they don't require the cold-water habitat that pure stripers need. Colorado, Kansas, Virginia, and Oklahoma maintain notable wiper programs.
