Q.Stand Placement & Tactics

How do I set up for a morning vs. evening hunt?

A.

Morning sits work best between bedding and a known food source — deer return from feeding pre-dawn, so the stand intercepts them on the trip back. Evening sits work best on the food side or in staging areas — deer leave bedding heading toward food. Wind direction must work for the stand's specific setup at the time of day.

Morning access is the main risk: getting in without bumping deer that are already feeding. Plan access routes that don't cross feeding areas. Evening access is easier — deer haven't moved yet — but exit becomes the challenge.

During rut, both windows produce, plus midday. State rut dates time the high-percentage windows.
