About the species

Bobcats are mid-sized wild cats (15-30 pounds) widespread across nearly every US state and southern Canada. Their range is one of the most stable predator populations in North America. They live in nearly every habitat type from desert sage to Northern hardwoods to suburban edge cover, hunting rabbits, hares, rodents, and small deer.

Bobcat seasons run in most states with significant fur-trade history — typically late fall through winter when pelts are prime. Methods include hound hunting, calling, and trapping. Some states require a CITES tag for export. The fur market drives most bobcat hunting effort; population health is generally good across the species' range.
