Q.Pigs & Poultry

Are ducks easier to raise than chickens?

A.

Ducks have advantages: more disease-resistant, lay more reliably year-round (especially Khaki Campbells), tolerate wet weather and cold better, slug and bug control on pasture. Trade-offs: messier (need water, leave wet bedding), require deeper-water access for natural behavior, generally less docile around handling than chickens. Different rather than easier.

Livestock-breeds pages cover duck breeds.
