Pigs & Poultry
What is the difference between Cornish Cross and Freedom Ranger meat chickens?
Cornish Cross are commercial broilers — fast (6-8 weeks to 5-7 lbs), efficient, produce supermarket-style carcasses. Freedom Rangers (Red Rangers, Pioneers) are slower-growing (10-12 weeks), forage well on pasture, and produce more flavorful but smaller carcasses. Cornish Cross win on efficiency; Rangers win on quality and animal welfare.
