Pest & Weed Management
How do I protect seedlings from birds after planting?
Cover seedlings with floating row cover until they're 4-6 inches tall and past the most attractive stage. Use bird scare tape (reflective mylar) on stakes around plots. For corn, use bird-resistant varieties (some are bred to deter bird damage). Plant slightly higher rates to compensate for predictable bird losses.
