Corn Production
How much nitrogen does corn need?
Standard recommendation: ~1 lb N per bushel of yield goal. For 200-bushel corn, plan ~200 lbs N per acre. Adjust down for legume cover crops (subtract 30-60 lbs for hairy vetch), manure applications (subtract per analysis), and high-OM soils. Split applications (some at planting, more at side-dress) improve efficiency over single applications.
