Q.Stocking & Trout Fishing

How long after stocking are trout catchable?

A.

Freshly stocked trout are often easiest to catch in the first few hours to first day after release — they're hungry, naive about predators, and concentrated near the stocking point. Catch rates drop somewhat after 24-48 hours as fish disperse and learn to be cautious. Most stocked trout are caught within the first week.

Some hatchery trout pellets keep them artificially aggressive — small bright spinners, PowerBait, and salmon eggs work well for stocked fish. State stocking schedule pages cover release timing.
