Q.Stocking & Trout Fishing

What is a put-and-take fishery?

A.

Put-and-take describes a stocking program where hatchery trout are released and expected to be caught and harvested by anglers within weeks. The fish aren't expected to reproduce or survive long-term in the water. Most state weekly stockings of urban lakes and streams operate as put-and-take — fish in, fish out, repeat next week.

Stocking schedule pages cover put-and-take stocking schedules and locations.
