Q.Offshore Fishing Tactics

What is a weed line and why do mahi stack on it?

A.

A weed line is a continuous band of floating sargassum (gulfweed) created where currents converge offshore. The weed itself shelters small baitfish, crabs, and shrimp, which attract larger predators — especially mahi-mahi, which prefer to hold tight to structure of any kind. A 100-yard stretch of healthy weed line can hold dozens of mahi.

Run trolls along both sides of the weed line and around any breaks in it. Sight-cast to visible mahi shadowing the weed. SST and migration calendar pages cover offshore conditions.
