Pre-spawn staging starts as water hits 50-55°F. Active bedding occurs as water reaches 60°F+. Post-spawn recovery follows as fish move off beds. Spawn calendar pages cover species timing.
Spawn Timing & Fishing
What water temperature triggers bass spawn?
Largemouth bass spawn at 60-65°F, smallmouth at 55-65°F, spotted bass at 60-68°F. The trigger is a sustained period in the target range, not just hitting it briefly. A few warm days that touch 62°F won't trigger spawn; several days of stable 62°F water will.
