Some species (snook, tarpon) cruise flats during slack high looking for cruising baitfish, but the average inshore catch rate drops sharply. Plan your highest-effort fishing for the moving-water windows around slack rather than during it. Tide guide pages cover slack timing.
Tides & Fishing
Why does high slack tide slow fishing down?
Slack high tide stops water movement, which disperses bait across flooded flats and eliminates the ambush points predators need. Fish often stop feeding entirely until current resumes. The slowest 30 minutes of any tide cycle is typically the half hour bracketing slack high and slack low.
