Fly-down to about 9 AM produces the most gobbling and the most patternable activity in pre-breed and post-breed phases. Mid-morning to noon (9 AM-noon) often outproduces dawn during peak breed when hens have left toms looking for new mates. Afternoon hunts (where legal) work best in late season.
Most state turkey seasons restrict legal hunting hours to before noon or limit shotgun hours. Where afternoon hunting is permitted, post-3 PM gobbling can pick up as toms head to roost trees and re-engage in territorial behavior.
