Farm Pond Management
How do I know if my pond needs liming?
Pull a water alkalinity test from your county extension service. Below 20 mg/L total alkalinity, pond is acidic and benefits from liming. Add agricultural lime at 1-2 tons per acre for typical farm ponds. Liming raises productivity, supports plankton bloom, and improves fish growth. Re-test every few years.
