Q.Cover Crops

What is a cover crop cocktail and does it work better than single species?

A.

A cover-crop cocktail is a mix of 3-8+ species (typically a grass, legume, brassica, and broadleaf) planted together. Cocktails generally outperform single species because each component fills a different function — N fixation, weed suppression, deep tap roots, microbe diversity. Trade-off: harder to terminate cleanly than single species.

Crop calendar pages cover species-specific timing for blending.
