Q.Farm Pond Fishing

What causes pond turnover and how does it affect fishing?

A.

Pond turnover happens in fall when surface water cools below the temperature of deeper water, causing the layers to invert. The mixing event can spike low-oxygen water from the bottom up to the surface, temporarily stressing fish and shutting down feeding for several days. Most ponds turn over in October-November.

Aeration can prevent severe turnover events.
