Q.Vegetable Gardening

When do I plant cucumbers and squash?

A.

Direct-seed cucumbers and squash after the last frost when soil reaches 70°F. Or start indoors 3-4 weeks before transplant date. Both crops are cold-sensitive — too-early planting in cool soil produces stunted plants and reduced yields. Cucumbers mature in 50-70 days; summer squash 50-65 days; winter squash 80-110 days.

Crop calendar and frost-date pages cover timing.
